The Queensland Government committed funding to the Highfields State Secondary College to service the fast-growing urban development in the area. FK Gardner and Sons Group (FKG) won the contract and engaged RMA to provide structural and civil engineering services.

RMA revised the initial design that stated the site would require 43,000m3 of cut and fill earthworks. RMA’s civil team’s redesign achieved a 40% saving in the cut and fill required.

RMA’s structural team used Revit to individually model each building, allowing seamless integration of covered walkways and external paths. A hybrid footing system was designed for the two-storey block, with experience showing this works best with the sites expansive clay, as well as allowing for future expansion as the school continues to grow.
