St Lukes Performing Arts Centre - Bundaberg, QLD

This state-of-the-art multipurpose centre for St Luke’s Anglican College is designed to serve as both a performing arts centre and indoor sports facility. The $11.5 million four storey building features a 1,000-seat auditorium, stage area, back of house facilities and control rooms, with provisions for future expansion.

Our Structural team developed a customised design solution that considered unique ground conditions, cyclonic wind loads and the structure’s sensitivity to movement. The roof’s steel structure was meticulously designed to support the fly gallery and theatre equipment, accommodate large spans, and withstand cyclonic wind loading.

Our team also engineered a unique and efficient foundation solution that fully suspended the structure over existing infrastructure and extremely expansive clay soils that concealed a boulder field. These innovative solutions increase resilience against extreme weather and support future growth for the school community.

Stormwater management for the site addressed flooding, local site drainage design, and stormwater quality. The stormwater solutions had to overcome limited fall, existing drainage infrastructure capacity, and a 10-hectare upstream catchment. Our design optimised the preservation of existing greenery to align with the school’s sustainability goals.
