Amrun Accommodation Camp

Amrun Accommodation Camp

RMA was engaged to design a 1200-man lifestyle village for workers in Weipa on Queensland’s north coast, with the aim of creating micro-communities for everyday living. RMA delivered civil, structural, hydraulic, geotechnical, traffic and transport, surface water, construction management and contract administration in house, providing a cohesive and holistic design solution for the village,

Our site layout included 50-bed clusters to emulate a small-town feeling, providing a safe and homely environment for the workers. To further support this environment, RMA designed recreation facilities including full-sized sports fields, cricket and golf nets, gym and recreational rooms for downtime and socialising.

In respect of the Traditional Owners of the land, the site featured a dedicated entry at the village entrance. This area included a large wooden structure for smoking ceremonies, scar trees at each entrance, fire pit, and a storytime corner.

We were able to deliver this village to last 50 years whilst working with a 1.7% natural slope across the site, design considerations for a cyclonic region and extreme rainfall. Successful project delivery was achieved through our in-house multidisciplinary approach and dedicated Project Manager who liaised with the client and contractors.
