Carnival Lane - Toowoomba CBD

Carnival Lane - Toowoomba CBD

The Carnival Lane Pedestrian walkway is an architecturally designed thoroughfare on Margaret Street, Toowoomba. The Carnival Lane walkway was designed to convert an existing 100-year-old building into both a meeting place, and a walkway to unlock over 80 extra carparks through improved access to the Neil Street carpark. RMA were the lead engineers for this $1.6 million community enhancement project.

RMA provided a structural design that eased constructability for the contractor, whilst still retaining the architect’s bespoke vision for the space. The building design incorporated materials from the previous building before it was demolished, including a wall made of the old floor joists. The design had to give consideration to both temporary support of the neighbouring common walls during construction, as well as the permanent solution for the architecturally designed steel structure.

The Carnival Lane Walkway was awarded the BDAQ Regional (South-West) winner for the ‘Best Special Project’.
