As part of Department of Transport and Main Road’s SRNU Statewide Structures Upgrade, this project involved investigations into replacement of a major culvert system under the Esk – Hampton Road north of Toowoomba that had reached its life expectancy.
RMA’s surface water team developed a DRAINS (hydrology) model and a TUFLOW (2d hydraulic) model to assess the existing culvert flow conditions. Once the existing scenario was modelled, options for the culvert remediation were assessed and a like-for-like outcome was obtained.
RMA presented three options, including a SWOT analysis for all options, and worked with TMR to identify the most effective and efficient option. The preferred option was progressed through to design and documentation phase, with our civil team undertaking pavement and culvert design, P50 and P90 estimates, and provision of a type 3 scope ID report.
