Warrego Highway Options Analysis

Warrego Highway Options Analysis

Value Engineering

The Warrego Highway Upgrade Strategy is a long-term investment strategy to improve the safety, reliability, capacity, transport efficiency and flood immunity of the highway.

This strategy identifies short, medium and long-term priorities of the Warrego Highway between Brisbane and Charleville.

The highway will be progressively upgraded to motorway standard.

Advantages of RMA’s Input

A preliminary Options Analysis was undertaken on the Warrego Highway for selection of high priority intersections between Toowoomba and the Lockyer Valley Regional Council boundary. This identified 18 high priority intersections, which RMA then undertook an Options Analysis on. The OA identified the preferred interim intersection treatment for each individual location and the priority listing of each intersection based on key performance criteria including improved safety, efficiency, reliability and capacity of the highway in support of the longer term motorway standard strategy.

Interim intersection treatment options were evaluated using a multi-criteria assessment (MCA) process based on the key performance criteria and agreed weightings. Pairwise analysis was undertaken to systematically evaluate individual options and score the effectiveness of each option comparatively to alternative developed options. Each preferred option was identified as a result of completing the MCA. The generation of each option and resultant intersection priority listing will enable TMR to progress interim intersection treatments to Business Case status.
